Sonya Malani, O.D.

dr sonya malani

Dr. Sonya Malani graduated Magna Cum Laude from Rutgers University with a degree in Biological Sciences. She later received her doctorate from the State University of New York College of Optometry, where she graduated with high honors and is a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa optometric honor society.

She then completed an additional one year residency specializing in Ocular Disease and Refractive Surgery at OMNI Eye Services NJ, where she worked alongside a number of distinguished ocular surgeons. As a result of her training and clinical experience, Dr. Malani is well versed in the management of cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and ocular emergencies.

She also has a strong interest in pediatrics and slowing the progression of myopia (near-sightedness) in young patients. Rapid progression of myopia in children may often lead to high myopia and an increased risk for developing ocular disease in adulthood. "Myopia control" is a term used to describe a number of treatment options that help slow this progression. Dr. Malani is happy to offer low-dose atropine drops and soft multi-focal contact lenses to children who may qualify for these myopia control options.

When she is not working, Dr. Malani enjoys spending time with her husband and toddler. She also enjoys making candles with scents inspired by her love for cooking and traveling.
